FOR THE WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 8 - 12 OUR LEARNING GOALS WILL BE:

For ELA:

I can describe story elements including characters and their points of view.
  • ·       Understand the different characteristics of characters, based on their points of view.
  • ·       Identify story structure and plot.
  • ·       Participate in shared writing and in narrative writing.
  • ·      Speak in a different voice when reading dialogue.
  •     Write from a character’s point of view.
***Ask your child about these concepts at home when they are reading. These are simple ways to check for understanding.

For Math:

I can use repeated patterns to count and represent number.

Base 10 Block showing 1 hundred
Base 10 Block showing 1 ten

I can read and write numbers up to 1,000 using different forms. (For example, if given any of the following representations, students know they all equal 75:  seventy-five, 75, 7 tens and five ones, 7 ten blocks and 5 one blocks, 6 tens and 15 ones, 70 + 5, 7 dimes and 1 nickel, etc.)

Base 10 Block showing 1 one

I can tell how many ones, tens, and hundreds are in a given number.(For example, 402 = 4 hundreds, 0 tens, and 2 ones. I can trade 1 hundred in and get 10 tens so another way to represent this number is 3 hundreds, 10 tens, and 2 ones - this can be very tricky, and we use words like"bundling" and "unbundling" or trading or even equivalent when we do this).

I can represent a number up to 1,000 in a variety of ways. (For example, students can write all the above to show any given number in numeral form)

Science:
I can distinguish between human body parts (brain, heart, lungs, stomach, muscles, and skeleton) and their basic functions.

OTHER NEWS:

Your child should be logging his/her reading on the Reading Room rewards online and telling about his/her book or should be filling out the reading bingo along with the book talk log.   This way I know your child is reading.  It should be for 10 minutes each night

Please sign your child's planner each night and sign and return any papers under the signed and returned section in your child's binder.  Lastly, clean out the section that says keep at home!!

We have EDMODO online where I will post questions about information your child has learned in class and they can respond along with their classmates.  The group is Ms. Chapin's jungle of excellence.  The activation code  is as followed: 599t5e
