Our Math Goal for this week: I can solve 3 digit addition and subtraction word problems and facts using a variety of strategies.
Students need to know to go next door to next place value when number is too small at the top when subtracting
We will practice subtracting 0s
400- 359=
600- 543=
300-199=
We will also practice reading word problems carefully to figure out whether we're adding or subtracting!
Students will be tested on these strategies the Monday after our long weekend!! :-)
Our Science goal: I can identify different forms of energy and how they help the environment.
Students will be put in teams where they will research about coal, hydroelectric, solar or wind power plants. They will create a commercial to try to get someone to use power from their plant.
Students will be tested this week on their understanding of energy and its importance.
Our ELA Goal:
I can identify how the character responds to major events and challenges within the story.
I can identify the characters' point of view within different parts of the text.
Students will be receiving homework that follows this standard. Your child is to practice with a fiction story using his/her library book. If your child is reading a chapter book, he/she can explain these ideas within one chapter or more.
Our Writing Goal: I can create a narrative story from a different point of view from a previously read story.
Students will be learning to use quotation marks and think in the eyes of the characters they use in their story.

Spelling words are posted!!! Please encourage your child to practice using spelling city!!
Lastly, please have your child practice his/her power goal nightly since students are expected to be at 2R/White by end of year. Students can't move up in Reading levels until he/she has met all the skills of the level.
